Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust SLT team is excited to recruit a Speech and Language Therapy assistant into our growing stroke rehabilitation service. This is at a time of change with opportunities for innovation and service change. Our inpatient stroke rehabilitation service is based at Rowley Regis Hospital. The base for this post will be at Rowley Regis Hospital and will focus on delivering high quality communication and swallowing rehabilitation to patients during inpatient recovery from stroke. Role and setting
We are looking for an individual passionate about rehabilitation to work directly with patients with communication and swallowing difficulties resulting from stroke. The candidate should be able to use highly developed interpersonal skills to establish strong relationships with a range of individuals and MDTs. The trust has a fully funded integrated community stroke service, so it is possible to follow patients from acute to long-term community intervention. The focus of this position is inpatient rehabilitation at Rowley Regis Hospital, with opportunities to learn across the pathway and occasional travel to support patients at Midlands Metropolitan Hospital site.
Responsibilities
* Support delivery of high quality communication and swallowing rehabilitation to inpatients following stroke.
* Engage with patients and MDTs to support rehabilitation goals.
* Participate in weekend service provision for in-patients at Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital and contribute to future 7-day working models.
* Support staff development and participate in ongoing learning opportunities.
Qualifications and experience
* A level qualification or suitable equivalent (Essential).
* Experience of working in a hospital/NHS environment with patients (Essential).
* Experience of working with patients with communication problems (Essential).
* Knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Essential).
* Knowledge of the impact of swallowing and communication impairments on individuals (Essential).
* Personal qualities: problem solving, teamwork, positively motivate others, flexible, conscientious, initiative (Essential).
