Role Overview The Principal Data Consultant (Pre-Sales) plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering high-impact data and AI opportunities across the UK healthcare sector. Working closely with senior technology leaders, account teams and delivery leads, this role focuses on understanding complex client needs, shaping new engagements, and designing innovative Data and AI solutions that improve outcomes across the healthcare system.
This is a senior, client-facing role combining strategic consulting, pre-sales leadership and hands-on technical expertise. It is ideally suited to an experienced data architect or data consultant with a strong background in healthcare, public sector delivery, and a passion for using data and AI to drive meaningful change.
Key Responsibilities Client Engagement and Pre-Sales
Lead early-stage opportunity shaping through discovery sessions and exploratory workshops with senior healthcare stakeholders.
Qualify opportunities and develop early-stage solution concepts, proposals and positioning materials.
Collaborate with account teams to produce compelling, solution-led bid responses and presentations.
Act as a trusted advisor to healthcare clients at national, regional and research levels.
Create reusable healthcare Data and AI accelerators to support repeatable pre-sales and delivery activity.
Data Architecture and Delivery Assurance
Lead or assure the design of complex Data and AI solutions covering data integration, analytics, AI/ML and interoperability.
Act as Lead Data Architect on delivery programmes, owning technical design, data models, metadata and governance frameworks.
Provide technical leadership and delivery assurance, ensuring alignment with best practices and client objectives.
Advise on technology and product selection, including defining information handling and operating models.
Support delivery teams through subject matter expertise and hands-on contribution where required.
Offerings and Thought Leadership
Develop reusable healthcare data and AI offerings and accelerators.
Contribute to the definition of go-to-market propositions in collaboration with sales, marketing and delivery teams.
Create high-quality sales and marketing collateral that clearly articulates value in the healthcare data and AI space.
Represent the organisation at industry events, panels and briefings to build credibility and professional networks.
Stay current with emerging trends in healthcare data, AI and analytics.
Identify opportunities to apply innovative technologies and approaches within client engagements.
Promote a culture of experimentation, continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Lead, mentor and empower individuals within the Data and AI practice.
Foster a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture that supports professional growth.
Proven experience as a Data or AI Consultant in a client-facing role, including pre-sales and opportunity shaping.
Strong expertise in data architecture, including data modelling, analysis, transformation, migration, metadata and governance.
Demonstrated experience delivering or assuring large-scale Data or AI programmes within healthcare or the public sector.
Ability to operate as a senior technical leader across complex delivery environments.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with experience engaging C-level and Director-level stakeholders.
Broad understanding of modern data platforms, analytics, AI/ML, cloud technologies and data governance.
High proficiency in at least three mainstream data technologies, with awareness of wider industry trends.
Experience across the full sales lifecycle, from early shaping through to pitch and close.
Experience working with UK healthcare organisations such as NHS England, DHSC, UKHSA, NHSBSA, ICSs or devolved administrations.
Strong understanding of healthcare data standards and interoperability (e.g. FHIR, HL7, SNOMED).
Experience designing or delivering Secure Data Environments (SDEs) or research-focused data platforms.
Knowledge of practical applications of Generative AI and large language models in healthcare.
Familiarity with public sector procurement processes.
Experience developing go-to-market offerings, accelerators or reusable assets.
Participation in healthcare data industry forums, advisory groups or standards bodies.
