An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Band 5 Recovery Practitioner in our Recovery Unit. We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join our team.
In this post you are responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based patient care using clinical expertise and skill. The post holder will work collaboratively and co‑operatively with other members of the multi‑disciplinary team, in meeting the needs of the patients.
Main Duties
The post holder will be an NMC/HCPC registered practitioner or nurse who will assess, plan, implement and evaluate high quality, safe and compassionate care for patients in the peri‑operative setting. This care will be facilitated by utilising evidence‑based peri‑operative standards, trust policies as well as local and national guidelines (e.g. NICE).
Key responsibilities include:
* Working with the peri‑operative multidisciplinary team (including Anaesthetists and Surgeons) to provide effective care within the Post‑Anaesthetic Care discipline, in line with scope of practice and departmental need.
* Supporting the Theatre Leadership Team to ensure standards of practice and care quality are upheld; acting as a role model, supporting the learning of others and contributing to the development and implementation of improvement ideas.

Our 15‑bed theatre department carries out a wide range of procedures for many surgical specialties including Orthopaedics, Trauma, ENT, Dentals, Urology, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Colorectal, Breast, Obstetrics and more recently, Robotics.
Person Specification
Essential
* Qualifications
o First level registered nurse or registered Operating Department Practitioner
o Current registration with either NMC or HCPC
o Accredited post‑registration qualification in Anaesthetics or Post Anaesthetic Care (as appropriate to role)
o Evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience
o Experience in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care using an evidence‑based approach
o Experience of understanding and implementing Trust policies, departmental procedures and local/national guidelines
o Experience of working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of all service users
o Experience of undertaking/recording CPD activities commensurate to the role, including keeping relevant logs to support annual appraisal/validation of extended role competencies
Desirable
* Qualifications
o Intermediate Life Support / Paediatric Intermediate Life Support (Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetic Care roles)
o Teaching/Assessing/Mentorship qualification
o Completion of a validated, university‑accredited, Surgical First Assistant programme of study to support extended scope of practice
* Experience
o Experience across a broad range of specialties in one or more peri‑operative disciplines (Anaesthetics, Scrub, Post Anaesthetic Care)
o Evidence of supervising junior staff and leading clinical teams
o Evidence of supporting colleagues/mentoring learners/facilitating learning within the peri‑operative environment
o Evidence of post‑registration CPD and recent experience as a Surgical First Assistant / ability to demonstrate specialist knowledge/competence to undertake Surgical First Assistant role
