Overview
We are seeking an experienced HV Transmission Engineering Lead to oversee the technical delivery of major UK transmission and substation projects. This role involves leading a multidisciplinary electrical design team, managing engineering governance, and ensuring high-quality, technically compliant outputs across complex HV projects.
You will act as the senior technical point of contact, coordinating with internal teams, external partners, and key stakeholders throughout all phases of the project lifecycle - from tendering and design development through to construction support and handover.
The role offers predominantly remote working with flexibility for travel to offices and project sites across the UK when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the delivery of electrical engineering design for large-scale HV transmission and substation projects.
* Serve as the primary technical interface between engineering, project teams, and external partners.
* Oversee engineering progress, risks, design reviews, budgets, and programme performance.
* Provide leadership to internal engineers and designers, including resource planning, mentoring, and capability development.
* Ensure all design outputs meet relevant technical, regulatory, and client standards.
* Manage change control, technical assurance, and quality processes across the design lifecycle.
* Support bid development and strategic technical input for future HV transmission opportunities.
* Coordinate with third-party designers, ensuring compliance, competency, and robust technical approvals.
Essential Experience
* Extensive background delivering HV transmission engineering and design projects.
* Strong experience with National Grid substation projects (e.g., 400kV / 275kV / 132kV).
* Proven leadership of engineering teams and multi-disciplinary design delivery.
* Strong capability in technical assurance, value engineering, and change management.
* Experience managing 3rd-party designers, suppliers, and technical approvals.
* Ability to interpret, validate, and assure complex design deliverables.
