Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides high quality, accessible and responsive community and specialist services within Birmingham and the West Midlands. We deliver over 100 clinical services, out in people’s homes and in over 300 hospitals, health centres and clinics. We provide services for adults, children, people with learning disabilities, those with rehabilitation needs and also dental services.
The post holder will join other psychiatrists for people with intellectual disability who work with integrated multidisciplinary teams to meet the specialist healthcare needs of the population of approximately 1.1 million.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting and developing medical education for medical students within Birmingham Community Trust Learning Disability Services.
2. Developing competence in medical education and teaching skills.
3. Guiding students in their learning experiences, delivering small group bedside and seminar teaching, and participating in workshops and lectures.
4. Developing teaching materials and enhancing learning within the trust facilities.
5. Acting as a role model and first point of contact for students during their placement.
6. Contributing to assessment processes for medical students, including case presentations and summative assessments like OSCEs.
7. Providing clinical care to patients through outpatient clinics, domiciliary visits, and MDT reviews, including psychiatric assessments and supporting treatment plans.
8. Carrying out mental state examinations, medical assessments, and treatment duties under supervision.
9. Completing medication reviews and writing prescriptions under supervision.
