Overview
Secretary / Co-Ordinator - Cardiac Catheter Suite at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date is 10 June 2026.
Main duties
* Provide clerical support, including typing procedure reports and letters, spreadsheets, waiting time reports, filing, answering telephone calls and dealing with enquiries for all patients attending the Cardiac Catheter Suite.
* Plan, organize, direct and coordinate the work of the Unit; support efficient communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, the public and other disciplines within the trust.
* Demonstrate excellent organisational skills, flexibility, initiative, and a high standard of professionalism with confidentiality and integrity.
Responsibilities
* Provide clerical support related to the Cardiac Catheterisation Suite and Cardio Respiratory, including audio transcription of Consultant dictation and attendance in governance and cardiology meetings.
* Provide an efficient appointments service; liaise with patients and consultants.
* Handle waiting list issues in conjunction with Cardio Respiratory Department requirements.
* Obtain relevant case notes for patients attending Cardiac Catheter Suite; sort incoming mail for medical secretaries, consultants or other healthcare professionals.
* Deal with telephone enquiries promptly, inform colleagues as required, and pass messages/information quickly.
* Assist clinicians with administrative duties related to meetings (e.g., collating scans for specialist reviews).
* File patient investigations and correspondence; participate in on‑the‑job development under supervision of the Cardio-Respiratory Services Manager and Medical Secretarial staff.
* Support Medical Secretary colleagues and provide flexible cover when they are absent to maintain continuity of service.
* Undertake other duties as directed; operate in accordance with Trust policies and standard procedures for handling case notes and appointment systems.
* Observe Health & Safety at Work Act and Data Protection Act requirements.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Grade C or above, or GCSE/Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths & English
* NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration (or equivalent experience)
* Typing or word processing qualification at RSA II (or equivalent)
* Medical Terminology Qualification (or equivalent experience)
* RSA III or equivalent typing qualification
* IT qualification (ITQ Level 2 or equivalent)
Experience
* Clerical work involving computerised systems
* Knowledge of medical terminology
* Experience using audio transcription systems
* Secretarial experience in Cardiology (preferred)
* Experience working in a healthcare environment
* Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
Typing
* Telephone manner
* Microsoft Office
* Medical terminology
* Handwriting assessment (if applicable)
* Experience in NHS environment (preferred)
