Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring musical director for the Bradford Youth Orchestra. The orchestra is forward thinking and regularly explores exciting partnerships with a wide variety of organisations; past events have involved a Soul Band and a Rapper and working with a TV production company for a documentary. The orchestra hold bi‑annual residential weekends, tour abroad bi‑annually and participate in local, regional and national events.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be open to new ideas, have creative ideas for the development of the orchestra, and must be willing to undertake all residential weekends and tours, and all events, arranged in discussions with the Assistant Head of the Music Service responsible for ensemble provision.
Requirements
Membership of the group is from Grade 5, and they rehearse weekly in term time on Saturdays between 9am and 12 in Shipley, Bradford. Paid at £45 per hour. The post starts on 5 September 2026. The successful candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check and be expected to complete annual safeguarding and PREVENT training.

Bradford Music & Arts Service is a highly successful service and the lead organisation for the West Yorkshire Music Hub. It provides wide ranging music opportunities for children and young people who live or go to school in the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council area. The service works in close partnership with schools and the local community and a number of delivery organisations, regional and national partners to ensure that a broad range of high‑quality music provision is available, accessible and affordable to all children and young people.
