Staff Software Engineer - Backend
Location: Leeds – 2x a week
Base pay range
Salary: Up to £85k D.O.E + Benefits
Overview
Fruition IT are working with a well‑established tech‑first business that is embarking on a complete technical transformation. The client wants a Backend Staff Software Engineer to shape the architecture and technical direction of new projects while remaining deeply hands‑on.
Responsibilities
* Own and evolve the backend architecture for a large‑scale software platform.
* Work across multiple teams to ensure alignment and scalability throughout the business.
* Set technical direction and contribute to key design decisions across teams.
* Lead by example, writing high‑quality, maintainable code in Node.js and TypeScript.
* Design and optimise CI/CD pipelines, improving automation, observability and release processes.
* Collaborate cross‑functionally with product and platform teams to deliver robust services.
* Mentor and coach engineers, helping to raise the overall bar for backend development.
* Drive best practices in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure and API design.
Key Requirements
* 7+ years’ experience in backend or platform engineering roles, with recent senior/staff level experience.
* Deep hands‑on expertise with Node.js and TypeScript in production environments.
* Strong experience designing and deploying microservices and RESTful APIs.
* Proven experience with AWS (EKS, DynamoDB, S3, Lambda, Terraform).
* Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps principles and Infrastructure as Code.
* Experience leading or influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
* Familiarity with frontend technologies (React, TypeScript) beneficial but not essential.
