Main duties
* Act as the clinical and managerial Site Lead for Clinical Biochemistry.
* Deliver a high quality, comprehensive and cost‑effective service for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Health Economy.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and UKAS Accreditation standards (ISO 15189:2022) and maintain an effective governance framework.
* Provide clinical and scientific consultative support to health‑service professionals in the Pathology Directorate.
* Contribute to research, innovation and the service portfolio of the LSCPS network.
* Supervise medical and scientific trainees, including STP and HSST programmes.
Job responsibilities
* Overall responsibility for the Clinical Biochemistry service.
* Maintain quality and performance against objectives.
* Keep UKAS Accreditation status.
* Develop business cases and apply for funding with the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director.
* Oversee budgeting and control expenditure to deliver a responsive service.
* Implement risk‑management and improvement processes.
* Ensure staff welfare and provide exemplar leadership.
* Resolve organisational and staffing issues.
* Chair management meetings, including the Biochemistry Management Team and Service Reviews.
* Post holder is eligible for appointment as Clinical Director of Pathology.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification in Clinical Biochemistry.
* HCPC registered.
* Recognised teaching skills course / medical education qualification.
Experience and Knowledge
* Significant experience in organising and delivering a clinical biochemistry service.
* Broad training and experience in biochemistry.
* Experience delivering training programmes and presentations.
* Experience of clinical audit and implementation of change.
* Experience of working across boundaries to develop stakeholder networks.
* Positive mindset towards supporting organisational change, learning and continuous improvement.
* Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills with self‑awareness and self‑regulation.
* Accountable for delivering agreed objectives.
* Consistently professional, collaborative and compassionate.

Contract & Working Pattern
Permanent, full‑time.
Salary
£94,356 to £108,814 per annum, pro rata.
