POSITION SUMMARYAs EHS Specialist, you will lead and support the site teams in the protection of our employees, visitors, and of our environment. You’ll engage in overall business EHS strategy and performance, ensuring EHS activities are aligned in driving success.You’ll deploy new and changing EHS standards, legislation and requirements, as identified by the business and proactive updates.You’ll Carry out verification activities, including audits, to confirm that EHS standards and systems remain effectively deployed.This is a great opportunity to join an amazing team, during a very exciting period of development and investment. Ideally, you’ll have strong experience in interpreting legislation and building strong compliance processes. Experience in a permitted / COMAH, or other highly regulated site is a strong plus, but don’t be put off if you don’t tick all of the boxes, as training and development will be provided for the right candidate.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESRegulatory Compliance and GovernanceStay up-to-date with applicable Safety and Environmental legislation, ensuring that processes are developed and deployed to assure ongoing compliance.Deliver compliance with the requirements of COMAH and with the site Environmental Permit, acting as primary contact with regulatory bodies.Workplace Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and MitigationProactively identify risks to safety and the environment using appropriate principles (including but not limited to: risk / COSHH assessment, hazard ID / Close calls…) and develop and deploy the risk mitigation plan.Environmental Impact AssessmentAssess and reduce the environmental impact of the operational activity. This includes waste management, pollution control, and sustainability initiatives.Accident Prevention PlanningOwn the site accident prevention and management plan, in line with COMAH and Environmental Permitting requirements.Proactively identify potential accident hazards and develop and deploy the mitigation program.Deploy and test the accident response plan to ensure the ongoing suitability and effectiveness.Investigation and CAPAEnsure that good quality, timely investigations are carried out in the event of an accident or incident.Ensure root cause is correctly identified and drive the implementation of robust CAPAStandardsDefine and deploy appropriate safety and environmental standards, guidance and protocol.Maintain compliance with the ISO14001 and ISO45001 management systems.Carry out regular verification activities to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.Attend regional and global EHS meetings to stay up to date with business requirements and standardsTrainingConduct or arrange appropriate training for employees, to ensure everyone is aware of their responsibilities and obligations.Continuous ImprovementAnalyse performance data and trends to determine areas for improvement.Report on performance at a group level.Develop and deploy the EHS improvement strategy for site, taking into account potential risks and impacts, as well as information from accidents and incidents.MOC processesAct as SME in the management of change process to ensure that changes do not negatively impact on EHS compliance and standards, and do not introduce unmitigated risk.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS / LICENCESEssential:Previous EHS experience – in a chemical manufacture environment, preferably in a lower tier COMAH siteInterpreting legislation and implementing compliance processesCarrying out risk assessments and mitigation planningCOSHHProblem solving, root cause analyses and deployment of robust solutionsAbility to lead behavioural change, strong influencing skillsStrong verbal and written communication skills, ability to present reports and clear action plansAbility to carry out data analyses and continuous improvement initiativesStrong attention to detailAnalytical thinkingAbility to make sound, risk-based decisionsStrong team playerAbility to lead behavioural change, strong influencing skillsStrong verbal and written communication skills, able to present reports and clear action plansDesirable:COMAH knowledgeExperience in Environmental PermittingWaste management experienceExperienced auditorIT literate (MS Office)
