Overview

Liaison & Diversion Advanced Support Time Recovery Worker – Basingstoke

We’re looking for a Band 5 Advanced Support Time Recovery Worker to join our Liaison and Diversion team. You will have a keen interest in Liaison and Diversion and a passion about supporting our service users as they make their way through police custody, court and prison.

Role and responsibilities

The Advanced STR worker will support custody practitioners in conducting triaging and screenings in custody and escalating to a practitioner if acute risk or complex needs are present. They will also be responsible in supporting the wider STR workforce with advice and clinical support across the Hampshire criminal justice systems. The successful applicant will work in the police custody suites and occasionally the courts; working with people within the criminal justice system where vulnerabilities are suspected and further assessment is indicated to inform disposal of the case and to identify care pathways for appropriate onward referral/support.


Working pattern and location

The role is flexible across the Hampshire area according to locality and custody/court need, so the candidate is required to have flexibility to travel to localities across Hampshire as per roster. The advanced STR worker may also hold a small caseload of complex service users to support their engagement with community services, this may include such services as drug and alcohol. You will be able to work independently on this caseload and therefore must have good time management skills.


Work base

You will work from within police custody suites within Basingstoke and across Hampshire when required.


Parking

Parking is provided for staff at all sites.

Liaison & Diversion (L&D) services

Liaison and Diversion (L&D) services identify people who have vulnerabilities when they first come into contact with the criminal justice system as suspects, defendants or offenders. L&D services aim to improve overall health outcomes for people and to support people in the reduction of reoffending through assessing, proactive onward referrals and informing decision makers. It also aims to identify vulnerabilities in people earlier on which reduces the likelihood that people will reach a crisis-point and helps to ensure the right support can be put in place from the start.

The successful applicant will work in the police custody suites and occasionally the courts; working with people within the criminal justice system where vulnerabilities are suspected and further assessment is indicated to inform disposal of the case and to identify care pathways for appropriate onward referral/support.


Requirements and eligibility

Due to the nature of the service, there is an additional requirement to secure police vetting for this role. For the purposes of police vetting, the candidate will require at least three-years residency in the UK. Police vetting is a thorough investigation of an individual’s background, character, and suitability to work in the police force. It includes checks on criminal records, financial history, employment history, personal relationships, and lifestyle choices.


Must haves

1. Educated to degree level in health and social care or equivalent professional or vocational qualification in health and social care subjects or equivalent level of knowledge and/or practical experience of working in a health or social care setting.
2. Licence holder with access to your own vehicle and prepared to travel across Berkshire as required (travel and mileage will be reimbursed in line with our Trust’s policy).
3. A warm personality, good communication and people skills.
4. Experience of working in a health and social care setting with a willingness to develop the service and your own practice.
