We are seeking to recruit a gynaecologist to strengthen our gynaecology team in preparation for the opening of our new surgical hub. The role will deliver high‑quality care across Wakefield and North Kirklees, with services based at Pontefract, Wakefield, Dewsbury and Pinderfields.
Main duties
* General gynaecology clinics (morning and evening sessions)
* Day‑case and inpatient operating lists to maintain emergency gynaecology skills
* Administrative duties with office support and secretarial assistance
* Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) on an annualised basis
* Hot week acute gynaecology cover (08:00‑18:00) with ward rounds
* Consultant pre‑ and post‑op ward rounds allocated in the DCC for theatre sessions
* On‑call duties for gynaecology, shared on an approximate 1 in 8 basis (Band A)
* Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) – minimum 1.5 SPA in core timetable; additional SPA/DCC may be commissioned
* Assist with complex gynaecological surgery as part of the BSGE regional centre for endometriosis and tertiary urogynaecology service
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Full GMC registration with licence to practise
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR/equivalent)
* Medical degree from a recognised medical school
* MRCOG or equivalent
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Experience in benign abdominal surgery (open and laparoscopic) or equivalent
* Fully accredited by a college and accepted by a college representative
* Appropriate experience in gynaecology, including day‑to‑day management of a service, teaching/training, audit and clinical governance participation
* Strong problem‑solving, time‑management, computer literacy and communication skills
* Ability to organise outpatient priorities, theatre lists, and lead junior staff
* Commitment to continuing medical education, clinical governance & audit, and professional development
* Physically capable of performing the duties outlined in the post and evidence of competencies
* Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance
