Job description
We’re looking for a patient, adaptable, and supportive GCSE tutor to work 1:1 with a learner who has SEN needs and requires a flexible, confidence‑building approach. The student is capable but currently struggles with focus, motivation, and managing the demands of GCSE‑level work without the right support.
This role combines mentoring with academic guidance. Building trust, emotional safety, and a calm learning environment will be key. Academic content will be introduced gradually, at the student’s pace, with the aim of reducing pressure and helping them reconnect with learning in a way that feels achievable.
Your role will be to:
1. Deliver supportive, student‑led mentoring sessions alongside targeted GCSE tuition
2. Build confidence before increasing academic demands
3. Break down GCSE content into manageable, accessible steps
4. Adapt lessons to suit SEN needs, learning styles, and emotional readiness
5. Encourage motivation, resilience, and preparation for exams
6. Celebrate small wins to keep the student engaged and positive
We’d love to hear from you if you:
7. Have experience working with SEN students (, ADHD, ASD, anxiety, processing needs)
8. Can combine mentoring with learning support
9. Know how to make GCSE material engaging and less overwhelming
10. Are patient, encouraging, and flexible with your teaching approach
11. Understand that emotional readiness is as important as academic progress
Role Details:
12. Subjects: GCSE English and/or Maths (flexible based on your expertise)
13. Approach: Mentoring‑led, gradual introduction of academics
14. Hours: Flexible weekly sessions – 8 HOURS A WEEK
15. Pay: £25-£30 per hour (depending on experience)
16. Location: DT4
If you’re passionate about empowering young people with SEN and helping them succeed at their own pace, we’d love to hear from you!
