Job overview
A fixed term Band 7 Speech & Language Therapist role within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team providing clinical leadership in an acute setting. The successful applicant will mentor and support junior staff, supervise dysphagia competencies, and lead service development and improvement work.
Main duties of the job
Provide cross bay, mentoring and clinical supervision across different service pathways (acute, community and stroke). Manage a wide variety of patients, including frailty, progressive and acute neurology, stroke, respiratory, and cancer. Contribute to videofluoroscopy service where competent. Support training and professional development of newly qualified staff.
Working for our organisation
Our services are based across three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH), Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) – and a range of community health premises. The role may involve cover across these sites and will be based primarily at RLI.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
* Registered with HPC
* Ongoing membership with the RCSLT
* Membership of specialist interest groups
Experience
* Experience working with adults experiencing a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders
* Experience in acute hospitals, community hospitals, clinics and patients’ homes
* Significant experience with patients with acquired dysphagia across a range of diagnoses and conditions
* Experience supervising qualified SLTs
* Competency in videofluoroscopy
Skills
* Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills to communicate condition‑related information to clients and relatives
* Extensive knowledge of specialist assessments applicable to adult speech and language therapy
* Accountable for own professional actions and adherence to codes of practice, professional guidelines and policies
Additional Information
Flexible working arrangements are available, including part‑time and shift patterns. This role is for a 12‑month maternity cover but may become a permanent substantive position. This position is subject to NHS disclosure and barring service checks and a 6‑month probationary period for new appointments.
