We are currently recruiting multiple Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our compassionate and skilled team at the Edinburgh Marie Curie Hospice In-Patient Unit. This is a unique opportunity to make a profound impact in palliative care, supporting patients and their families during some of life’s most important moments.
As part of our nursing team, you’ll begin your day with a structured handover from the night shift before being allocated a maximum of four patients, allowing you to deliver truly personalised care. Your role will include morning rounds, liaising with doctors, preparing syringe drivers, administering pain management, and attending multidisciplinary team meetings. You’ll also manage admissions and discharges and provide sensitive, empathetic support to families during times of change.
You’ll be central to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care plans, working collaboratively with patients, families, and the wider clinical team to uphold the highest standards of care. If you’re passionate about delivering holistic, dignified care in a supportive and professional environment, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients admitted to the IPU.
2. Monitoring, assessing, and documenting patient conditions and progress.
3. Administering medication and treatments safely and accurately, in accordance with NMC guidelines and local policies.
4. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-centred care plans.
5. Promoting dignity, respect, and compassion in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
6. Supporting patient and family education, advocacy, and involvement in care decisions.
7. Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control.
What we’re looking for:
8. Demonstrated understanding and experience in palliative and end of life care.
9. A Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
10. A holistic and person-centred approach to nursing practice
11. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively and effectively with patients, families, and colleagues
