Children’s Social Worker
Team: Adoption | Location: Wirral
Wirral Borough Council has regionalised with other local authorities including Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley to become ‘Adoption in Merseyside’ (AiM) to provide a dedicated Adoption service in the Merseyside Region. Adoption in Merseyside is a newly formed shared service bringing together four Local Authority Adoption Teams in line with the Department for Education regionalising adoption services throughout the UK. The position is home working based with an expectation staff will travel in for team meetings, visits and meetings. The post is funded by Wirral on a secondment arrangement to Knowsley Borough Council, the host authority.
We are seeking applications from experienced practitioners who are confident in completing assessments for adoption support, providing support to both adopters and children with a plan of adoption.
The service provides and delivers a quality service for prospective adopters including robust assessments and analysis, preparation training and ongoing support. The service also maintains close links with each of the local authorities to ensure children with a plan of adoption find a stable, strong adoptive placement in a timely manner with the appropriate support to ensure success.
Your social work skills, knowledge and experience will enable you to assess adopters’ support needs and also understand the child’s needs and wishes in order to provide adoption support resulting in the best outcome possible for children and their adoptive families.
Responsibilities
* Assess adopters’ support needs and understand the child’s needs and wishes to provide adoption support that results in the best outcome for children and their adoptive families.
* Contribute to robust assessments and analysis, preparation training and ongoing support for prospective adopters.
* Collaborate with local authorities within Adoption in Merseyside to secure stable, strong adoptive placements in a timely manner with appropriate support.
* Travel to attend team meetings, visits and meetings as required; home working basis.
Qualifications/Experience
* Experience as a social worker with confidence in completing assessments for adoption support.
* Knowledge of adoption processes and the needs and wishes of children requiring adoption.
* Ability to work across multiple local authorities in a regionalised adoption service.

* Role is funded on a secondment arrangement to Knowsley Borough Council (host authority).
* Location: Wirral; remote/home working with travel for meetings as required.
