Deputy Manager Children's Home (AZ Caring) AZ Caring is committed to providing safe, nurturing, and high-quality care to children within our homes in Gillingham and Ashford. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in delivering outstanding care in line with Ofsted's Quality Standards and the principles of the 'Stable Homes, Built on Love' framework.

Thrive House Gillingham, Kent (4-bed) or (solo provision), Ashford Kent

Job Purpose

To support the Registered Manager in managing the day-to-day running of the children's home, ensuring the highest standards of care are maintained, compliance with regulatory requirements, and that each child's individual needs are met in a trauma-informed, child-centred environment.

Key Responsibilities - Assist the Registered Manager in ensuring the home meets the requirements of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.

* Support, mentor and supervise staff, promoting professional development and reflective practice.
* Develop and maintain care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies tailored to individual needs.
* Promote a culture that prioritises the welfare and safeguarding of children, adhering to child protection policies.
* Lead and model trauma-informed practice aligned with the 'Stable Homes, Built on Love' reforms.
* Ensure effective communication and collaboration with external professionals including social workers, educators, and healthcare providers.
* Contribute to staff rotas, recruitment and the training process.
* Respond promptly to incidents, ensuring thorough recording and learning from significant events.
* Maintain a homely, safe, and nurturing environment where children feel secure and supported.

Person Specification Essential:

* Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) and willingness to work towards Level 5 in Leadership & Management.
* Experience working in a residential children's setting, with a clear understanding of Ofsted inspection frameworks.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Children Act 1989, Children's Homes Regulations 2015, and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
* Ability to lead, motivate and support a staff team to deliver outstanding care.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and trauma-informed approaches.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and on-call duties as required.
* Full UK driving license
* The ability to manage the house in the absence of the manager

Salary and benefits

Salary: £30,000 £35,000 per annumBasis: Full-time (typically 40 hours/week)
