About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Construction Engineer to support Balfour Beatty’s Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar-in-Cleveland on Teesside.
Role Purpose
* Assist the Project Manager with scope definition, planning, and daily execution of the construction project; maintain schedules and manage submittal approvals and material delivery.
* Lead technical aspects throughout the construction phase: scope definition, design reviews, technical queries, subcontract work, cable calculations, as‑built checks, and ensure safe, on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
* Report to the Project Manager and liaise with key stakeholders such as QS, Design, and Planning.
Responsibilities
* Define scope of work packages and execution strategy.
* Deliver packages to programme, budget, safety, and quality expectations.
* Maintain accurate records: RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, record drawings, and project communications.
* Plan and organise plant, access, labour and materials in line with interfaces, including procurement activities for each package.
* Provide technical input for ITT and assist with queries during the tender process.
* Accountable for subcontract package deliverables and documentation.
* Conduct progress meetings with subcontractors to manage package specifics.
* Identify project risks and raise EWNs as appropriate.
* Draft site instructions detailing works, programme impact, cost impact, and reference to client‑led change events.
* Provide cost information to QS and support time estimates; undertake or support MTO of relevant packages.
* Keep the Project Manager updated on progress, financial, specification, and time risks; ensure identification of additional work.
* Review power distribution and protection systems for LV & MV; select and specify electrical distribution and control equipment.
* Coordinate project electrical engineering issues: procurement strategy, specifications, supplier selection, technical scope supervision, vendor data review, factory acceptance testing, and site support during installation and commissioning.
Qualifications
Essential
* Previous construction engineering experience in the relevant industry.
* Strong communication skills to manage customer relationships and drive operational excellence.
* Leadership experience, confidence in influencing and delivering targets.
* Financial awareness to deliver targets and improve safety and sustainability performance.
* Capability to visit suppliers and monitor activities as required.
Desirable
* Lean Construction principles experience and Lean practitioner training.
* Participation in industry events.
* Membership of professional bodies such as IET.
* Proficiency with O365.
* Current driving licence.
Additional Qualifications
* Formal qualification (HNC/HND) in Engineering/Construction or equivalent.
* APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ.
* CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent.
* CCNSG / HS&E MAPS.
