Yorkshire Water Graduate Scheme - Water Quality Scientist
Location: West Yorkshire with flexible travel across Yorkshire & Humber. Work type: 37 hours per week, 8:00am–6:00pm Monday to Friday.
Salary & Benefits
* Starting salary: £32,000, rising to £37,000 by end of year 2
* Extras: £2,000 signing bonus, annual bonus, 25 days holiday + bank holidays + wellness day

Your Graduate Programme
Our two-year programme offers five placements across your allocated business area, complemented by a choice of placements to suit your personal development needs in core functions such as Finance, Health & Safety, People, and Procurement. You will gain hands‑on experience, technical and leadership training, and support from mentors, managers, graduate alumni, and our Early in Careers team.
By the end of the scheme, you’ll be ready to step into a permanent role and make a lasting impact.

The programme involves working across our business and collaborating with colleagues to address challenges such as achieving net zero carbon emissions and planning for droughts or floods. The Water Quality function covers several connected areas, offering opportunities to identify and deliver innovation, champion nature-based solutions, and contribute to strategies central to Yorkshire Water achieving its vision.
We protect the environment and serve communities, providing essential water and wastewater services to the Yorkshire region 24/7, 365 days a year.
Your Role
The role of a Graduate Water Quality Scientist is vital to ensure water quality targets and standards related to legislation are met, delivering wholesome water to customers.
As a Graduate Water Quality Scientist, you will:
* Optimise assets, systems, processes and procedures to continuously improve water quality performance and protect public health at water distribution and production sites; contribute to the vision of taking responsibility for the water environment.
* Support coordinated, planned responses to incidents and ensure processes and actions are implemented.
* Help prepare regulator/Senior Manager reports, investigatory reports, and review exception reports from the team of scientists.
* Ensure compliance with Performance Commitments (CRI, ERI, Drinking Water Customer Contacts, UPO).
* Support and deliver initiatives and projects related to Water Quality Compliance, Customer Contacts, Network, Production and Capital support.
What you’ll need to be successful
* Minimum 2:1 Bachelors degree in a Science or similar (environmental) discipline.
* Enthusiasm and a drive to succeed
* UK Driving License and access to own vehicle
