Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced band 6 chemotherapy (SACT) nurse to join our dedicated Oncology and Haematology Day Unit team (based at St Margarets Hospice Yeovil). We are a nurse led unit with excellent patient feedback, providing specialist care to oncology and haematology patients undergoing systemic anti cancer treatments (SACT). We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate nurse to complement our team to help drive forward our services. The Unit has 12 treatment chairs, a phlebotomy clinic and outpatient clinic rooms. We operate Monday to Friday (some bank holidays) and offer clinical supervision and professional development. We would consider this role to be a developmental post, starting as a Band 5.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The post holder will be responsible for delivering SACT and a high standard of specialist nursing care to all patients within the Oncology and Haematology Day Unit. they will be able to coordinate the overall management of the Unit. Facilitating the education and support of qualified and unqualified staff and participating in the development of nursing practice in the clinical area. They will also be able to work independently and autonomously without direct supervision, accountable for own professional actions. Take an active role in deputising and supporting the Day Unit Manager.
The ideal candidate will be chemotherapy competent and have extensive experience in caring for oncology or haematology patients. You will be responsible for assessing care needs, conducting toxicity assessments, administering SACT and supportive treatments and leading shifts on a rota basis with the other band 6 nurses. As part of our supportive and forward thinking team, you will provide expert oncology and haematology nursing service to patients, families and health professionals. You will also contribute to education and training, quality improvement, audits and service development projects.

RN to Degree level
Experience within a SACT unit and completion of SACT passport

Recognised Cancer Course
Degree level module in Chemotherapy Administration

Proven evidence of clinical leadership of a team and leading a team through change
