To develop and deliver specialist goalkeeping coaching sessions tailored to the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological needs of female goalkeepers within the girls’ academi. The role focuses on nurturing goalkeepers’ individual potential by providing expert guidance and support in line with the club’s playing philosophy and long-term player development pathway. The Goalkeeping Coach will work closely with academi coaches and multidisciplinary staff to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to player progression, safeguarding a safe, inclusive, and challenging environment that fosters confidence, resilience, and performance excellence.
Main Responsibilities:
Session Planning & Delivery
Design and deliver position-specific training sessions for goalkeepers across age groups.
Align sessions with the club’s overall playing philosophy and team tactical principles.
Plan progressive training that addresses technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of goalkeeping.
Individual Development
Support each goalkeeper’s Individual Development Plan (IDP), with regular targets and reviews.
Provide tailored coaching to address each goalkeeper’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style.
Offer regular feedback through video clips, performance data, and 1-on-1 discussions.
Matchday Support
Assist in warm-ups and match preparation for goalkeepers.
Provide real-time tactical guidance and post-match analysis.
Observe goalkeeper decision-making, positioning, and communication during games for review.
Performance Monitoring
Track goalkeeper performances in training and matches using observation, statistics, and video tools (e.g., Veo, Hudl).
Maintain development records and progress logs for each goalkeeper.
Share insights with outfield coaches to align team and goalkeeper tactics.
Communication & Collaboration
Work closely with team coaches to ensure goalkeeper development aligns with team strategies.
Build positive relationships with players, parents, and support staff.
Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions regarding selection, training loads, and progression.
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
Follow all safeguarding policies and report any concerns appropriately.
Promote mental resilience and confidence in young goalkeepers.
CPD & Coaching Growth
Stay up to date with the latest methods in goalkeeper coaching and player development.
Attend in-house and external CPD opportunities.
Contribute to academi coach education.

Strong understanding of goalkeeping techniques, tactics, and training methods specific to female youth players.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with young players, parents, and coaching staff, providing constructive feedback that encourages growth.

Skilled at designing, planning, and delivering structured, progressive training sessions tailored to individual and group needs.
Team Collaboration:
Works well within a multidisciplinary team, fostering positive relationships with academi coaches, S&C, medical staff, and analysts.
Safeguarding Awareness:
Knowledgeable of safeguarding protocols and committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment for all players.
Professionalism & Integrity:
Demonstrates a professional attitude, punctuality, and strong work ethic, upholding the values and standards of the club.
Experience using video and performance analysis tools to support goalkeeper development is desirable.
Ability to mentor and inspire young athletes, encouraging a positive mindset and resilience is desirable.
Flexibility to adapt coaching styles to suit varying ages, abilities, and learning preferences is desirable.
Enthusiasm for continued professional development and staying updated with latest goalkeeping coaching trends is desirable.
Welsh language proficiency (Byddai hyfedredd yn y Gymraeg yn fantais amlwg).
Experience and Qualifications required:
Proven experience coaching female goalkeepers, ideally within an academi or elite youth football environment.
Demonstrable success in developing goalkeepers technically, tactically, physically, and psychologically.
Experience delivering tailored training programmes that meet the developmental needs of goalkeepers across different age groups.
Previous involvement in talent identification and progression monitoring of young goalkeepers (desirable).
Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including coaches, S&C, medical, and analysis staff.
Understanding of safeguarding and welfare issues relevant to working with young female players.
FAW Goalkeeping C Certificate or equivalent (minimum)
Safeguarding certification (e.g., FAW Safeguarding)
First Aid qualification.
Commitment to ongoing professional development in coaching and goalkeeping-specific training methodologies.
