What you’ll be doing
as a System Optimisation Engineer
1. Monitoring and resolving low pressure issues, customer complaints and network risks.
2. Supporting and leading technical input into engineering and customer projects.
3. Acting as a technical lead during unplanned or emergency events.
4. Writing and reviewing risk assessments for work impacting the water network.
5. Working closely with leakage teams and other stakeholders to optimise system performance.
6. Supporting long-term planning around resilience, water quality and system stability.
7. Helping develop operating strategies to maintain a calm and compliant network.
8. Reviewing and approving new connections and development requests.
Base location: Croydon – CR0 8YY
Working hours: 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week, with possible participation in a technical standby rota in future (1 in 8 weeks)
What you should bring to the role
9. A degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline would be desirable.
10. Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and water network operations.
11. Experience working within a regulated environment, ideally in water or utilities.
12. Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret operational data.
13. Strong communication skills and confidence working with multiple stakeholders, and a proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and develop.

14. Competitive salary from £39,770 up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
