We are seeking a highly thorough Mechanical / Electrical Test Engineer to join our Operations team on a permanent full-time basis. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring our machinery is shipped to our customers at the highest possible standard.

Responsibilities
* Competent in testing of systems used to control mechanical operations of Xtrutech equipment including electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic power systems.
* Good knowledge and experience of assembling and maintaining complex mechanical assemblies, involving and including electromechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic elements.
* Participate in the creation of machinery specifications by liaising with Xtrutech design engineering and software engineers to compile project electrical specification documentation.
* Read complex electrical circuit drawings.
* Create or modify complex electrical circuit drawings using AutoCAD software.
* Assist with the creation of FDS Functional Design Specifications to be used for equipment projects.
* Use Vault PDM (Product Data Management) software used to store and revision manage technical documents.
* Use Sage PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software used to create stock control and the creation of bills of materials for the assembly of Xtrutech equipment and machinery.
* Read, understand, create, and modify P&ID drawings created using AutoCAD software for Xtrutech equipment and machinery.
* Create high-quality FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) documentation.
* Complete FAT's (Factory Acceptance Tests) on Xtrutech machinery and equipment to a high standard, including process and operational testing when required.
* Conduct customer specific and customer witnessed FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) on Xtrutech machinery and equipment to a high standard, including process and operational testing when required.
* Participate in the identification of plausible design improvements to Xtrutech machinery and equipment.
* On occasion when required assist the Xtrutech service team with maintenance, installation and other activities that will require travel to the customer site to complete engineering tasks.
* Always Work in a professional and courteous manor and be aware that when at a customer site you are representing Xtrutech.
* Adhere to all Xtrutech health and safety and quality procedures.
* Participate in training courses when required, conducted at Xtrutech and at training facility sites.
* Assist with the compilation of instruction and maintenance manuals for the Xtrutech machinery and equipment.
* Liaise with colleagues, customers, and suppliers in technical meetings on Xtrutech site or via internet link, always with professional conduct when representing Xtrutech.
* When required assist with the generation of reports following equipment trials, clearly conveying all data accordingly.
* Comply and assist with company 5s audit and housekeeping.
* Adhere to and maintain the company quality policy to ISO9001:2015.
* Adhere to and maintain the company health and safety policy and health and safety work act 1974.
* Report at Xtrutech each day at the contracted hours of work, and able to be contacted at all times during these hours.
It would be beneficial to have:
* Strong electrical fault-finding skills on both 3-phase and 24VDC control circuits
* Experience with setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), especially Siemens G120C or similar
* Solid mechanical background with hands-on experience assembling and maintaining electromechanical systems
* Demonstrated attention to detail — ability to spot wiring errors, mechanical misalignments, or procedural deviations
* Familiarity with the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and CE Marking requirements, including basic understanding of EN standards (e.g. EN ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849)
* Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
* Experience using AutoCAD or similar tools to review or mark up electrical drawings
* Competence with testing equipment: multimeters, insulation testers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, etc.
* Understanding of safety relay logic and basic functional safety principles (PL/SIL levels advantageous)
* Comfortable working around live control panels and performing safe diagnostic tests
* Familiarity with PLC systems and control architectures (Siemens S7-1200/1500, ET200SP, Profinet etc.) – programming knowledge is a bonus
* Ability to document test procedures, FAT results, and issue logs clearly and accurately
* Willingness to travel for site installations, FATs/SATs, and customer support as required
* Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
* Comfortable liaising with Design Engineers, Software Engineers, and external customers to resolve technical issues
* Prior experience with extrusion or similar process equipment would be a strong advantage
* Basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems (beneficial, not essential)
* Good communication skills – able to clearly explain faults, resolutions, and system behaviours to colleagues and clients
* Knowledge of risk assessment for machinery controls and their safety systems.
* Office 365 literate.
* Health and Safety qualification is desirable
* Full UK driving licence
