Do you want to further your career in one of the busiest Medicines Information Centres in the South West? The centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital has developed over 50 years into a well‑resourced department, handling around 3000 enquiries each year.

Do you want to be part of successful clinical pharmacy team that embraces transformation and is passionate about delivering safe, personal and effective care?

If your answers are yes, then we have a perfect opportunity for you to join our award‑winning team.

This exciting post will enable you to develop your MI and management skills and gain wide‑ranging experience in a busy MI centre. You will participate in our enquiry answering, active information, and patient helpline services, assist in training and supervising staff in MI, and contribute to the MI Quality Assurance processes. You will provide a high‑level clinical pharmacy service and provide a lead on cost‑effective medicines management for the sub‑specialities at one of the largest hospital Trusts in England.

The post is a fixed‑term one year contract for 18.75 hours per week, flexible working can be accommodated within the working hours of the department (9.00-5.30 Monday to Friday).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

* Four‑year Vocational Master’s degree with one year’s postgraduate competency assessment with examination to enter the register otherwise Bachelor of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree along with equivalent skills gained through experience.
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development to comply with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) requirements.
* Significant clinical experience working in a UK hospital at minimum band 7 level equivalent or above, covering a wide range of duties.
* Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent skills gained through significant experience as a clinical pharmacist within hospital pharmacy.
* Knowledge of current therapeutics within area of clinical responsibility and promote evidence‑based practice.
* Able to work alone and unsupervised.
* Ability to organise and prioritise own workload including dealing with frequent interruptions.
* Effective oral and written communication with colleagues, staff and patients.
* Ability to write reports and make presentations to a range of colleagues in various settings.
* Intermediate competence in standard range of IT programs.
* United Kingdom Medicines Information Executive (UKMI Exec) introductory training course or equivalent level of knowledge and skills gained through experience.
* Foundation level management training or equivalent skills gained through experience.

Qualification and Training

* Active registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC
* United Kingdom recognised Degree in Pharmacy


Experience

* Previous experience of working in Medicines Information
* Significant clinical experience working in a UK hospital at minimum band 7 level equivalent or above, covering a wide range of duties
* United Kingdom Medicines Information Executive (UKMI Exec) introductory training course or equivalent level of knowledge and skills gained through experience.
* Experience delivering and developing a clinical pharmacy service
* Evidence of significant personal development, professionally and managerially


Knowledge and Skills

* Extensive knowledge of medicines optimisation acquired through Post graduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or equivalent experience or training
* Self‑motivated, able to use initiative & prioritise workload as well as work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Able to produce a range of written documents, SOPs, policies and guidelines.
* Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to challenge inappropriate prescribing and influence prescribing decisions of all healthcare professionals including senior medical colleagues.
* Able to effectively and appropriately elevate concerns to reduce risk & promote safety
* Be proficient in IT and applications including Word, Excel, Outlook
* Adaptable to the changing needs of the service including flexible working patterns (e.g. weekend working and working at both sites) and capable of working in a demanding environment with frequent interruptions
* Has a responsive, solution focused approach to addressing issues and barriers
