What you'll be doing

* Live the Balfour Beatty Values
* Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm
* Support the delivery of CSUK’s Sustainability activities
* Motivate the team and manage performance; monitor the competency of team members and undertake training/coaching as appropriate
* Health Safety & Environmental: Review Method Statements and Risk Assessments and make improvements as appropriate
* Lead an Accident / Incident Investigation (HFACS and ‘Four Page Report’)
* Carries out trend analysis and identifies improvement areas from audits and near misses
* Carries out field audits and confirms the sufficiency of control documentation
* Production and implementation of Permits to Work (Confined Space, Hot Works)
* Strong understanding of temporary works and timescales for implementation into the works
* Engineering Control: Guide & coach subordinates in technical requirements and techniques of setting out
* Guide and coach subordinates in resolution of construction issues, drawing on experience and industry best practice
* Quality: Ownership of the whole process of production, checking and submission of Handover Documentation (Green Files or equivalent)
* Implements systems and processes to support construction in accordance with the specification (e.g., Materials Approval, NCR, Handover Documentation)
* Carries out trend analysis and identifies improvement areas for non-conformance and business improvement
* Carries out Independent Inspections of their own section and others; conducts Site Audits for documentation compliance
* Coaches less experienced staff; liaises with designer to resolve technical issues
* Commercial: Maintains accurate diary and dialogue with external organisations (subcontractors)
* Produces a budget from the resourced programme and monitors/reviews weekly costs
* Involved in the procurement of subcontractors; manages sub contractors
* Understands cost and value
* Productivity: Produces a fully resourced stage programme in the accepted format/software
* Tracks and monitors KPI compliance and recommends improvements to systems to maintain team production
* Establishes production monitors translated to graphical form to aid understanding of current status and intervention needs
* Cross-references section programme to the three-weekly programme for compatibility
* Drafts correspondence to sub contractors, suppliers and Client


Who we're looking for

* Able to clearly communicate requirements of a safe system of work and implement improvements
* Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity; able to manage a team to ensure tasks are carried out
* Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights
* Able to work on own initiative and seek opportunities appropriate to responsibilities
* Holds a current driving licence and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified
* Excellent team player with good interpersonal and influencing skills; capable of working independently with minimal supervision
* Solution-oriented approach to issue resolution; strong development focus for the team
* Excellent role model for development of team members
* Health Safety & Environmental: Understands method statements and risk assessments; can develop new safe systems of work
* Understands Accident/Incident Investigation principles and process
* Good working knowledge of current H&S legislation
* Engineering Control: Understands technical requirements and techniques of setting out; coaches team
* Allocates resources effectively and identifies additional requirements
* Track record of solution-oriented issue resolution
* Quality: Understands organisational business management systems and handover requirements
* Good understanding of handover certification requirements
* Productivity: Able to produce and manage a fully resourced stage programme; measures KPIs for productivity; knowledge of Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Communications, Structures, Roadworks
* Commercial: Aware of procurement practices; experienced at producing detailed records and correspondence for commercial recovery
