Interview date: 14 May 2026 Job Purpose: To safely and efficiently operate Waste Management vehicles, while supervising the refuse crew ensuring the timely collection and disposal of waste and recyclables in accordance with local regulations and service standards. Key Responsibilities: Supervise the crew effectively, ensuring they receive clear instructions and all necessary information to perform their duties efficiently. Make sure you and your team work safely on roads by following health and safety rules, wearing the correct protective gear, reporting any accidents or near misses, and ensuring everyone is properly trained, reporting any training needs to Team Leaders to help keep standards high. Make sure the crew treats each other and the public professionally and politely at all times. Support the Team Leaders on issues like discipline, policies, and handling complaint. Work as part of a team in a collective task-and-finish environment to complete assigned tasks together reaching shared goals and remain engaged until the work is fully completed according to specified standard and within contracted work hours of Start time: 6:30pm Finish time: 2:30pm Work together with your team to safely drive, reverse, and move the collection vehicle on the road, following the training the Council gave you for guiding vehicles. Safely operate in the-cab collections system. Maintain a valid Driver CPC qualification and ensure full compliance with all CPC training and legal requirements to operate HGV vehicles safely and professionally. Drive and take responsibility for a range of vehicles, including heavy goods vehicles, sweepers, Hiab machinery, skip lorry, and other specialist fleet as necessary, ensuring safe operation, daily checks, and compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures. Always complete daily vehicle checks and logbook, report any problems, and keep the vehicle and the vehicle’s lifting equipment clean and working properly, following Council rules and legal requirements. Accountable for the tipping of waste at the Transfer Station or other sites as determined by the Council. Make sure all waste is collected, and streets are kept clean on your assigned route by safely and properly using the waste collection and street cleaning vehicles. Support street cleaning operations, ensuring the timely and safe collection, transport, and disposal of waste in accordance with council’s regulations and health and safety standards. Expected to be an active and supportive team member, contributing positively to collaborative working and helping to ensure the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
