Overview
As a Bioprocess Technician, you’ll bring hands‑on experience in biotechnology, food & beverage R&D or manufacturing. You’ll take responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation of lab equipment or entire lab spaces, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows. Ideally you’ll have experience setting up and running bioreactors, downstream processing units, or full bioprocesses.
Key responsibilities
* Setting up and running test rigs for bioreactors and downstream processing units under instruction from project managers and ‘chipping in’ where necessary across the company to accelerate the R&D and Engineering workplans.
* Being the source of knowledge and support for certain items of equipment.
* Working with other technicians with a range of expertise to maintain a professional, clean and safe working environment.
Objectives
* Support bioprocess development work by preparing inputs (cells and media) and running upstream and downstream test systems.
* Maintain or modify equipment to improve quality and productivity.
* Run and maintain the bioprocessing lab to a high standard.
* Troubleshooting and Problem‑Solving: Work closely with your team to identify and address technical issues as they arise.
Experience & Skill
* Engineering or physics background (integrated masters or bachelors degree, or equivalent qualification).
* Hands‑on experience working in biotechnology, food & beverage R&D or manufacturing.
Delivering for an organisation
* Experience of responsibility for managing the day‑to‑day running of several items of equipment or entire labs.
* Following health and safety procedures and experimental plans.
Team working
* Demonstrable ability to work with a diverse range of people, working towards a common goal in a multi‑disciplinary environment. Ability to ‘get to the bottom of’ what a colleague really needs to solve their problems.
Expertise
* Knowledge and application of underpinning engineering principles for solid‑liquid systems.
* Setting up and operation of experimental rigs.
* Assessing and mitigating hazards in biological/chemical processes.
* Setting up and operating bioreactors, downstream processing units or whole bioprocess/process.
* Mammalian cell culture and analysis.
