Overview

Successful applicant will perform essential law enforcement and community service functions during special events only. Examples of events include, all sporting events, University sponsored community and student activities, where security may be needed or requested by USU Eastern. Must reside within 15 minutes of USU Eastern campus to respond to on-call duty between 1–4. on weekdays or 4–7. on weekends; call-outs are compensated with a 2-hour minimum pay.

Responsibilities

1. Enforce all state, local and university laws, ordinances,regulations, and perform community service activities.
2. Assist in the judicial process by giving testimony.
3. Keep the University community informed through appropriate public relations activities.
4. Develop a relationship of trust by becoming personally acquainted with members of the community.
5. Ensure a prompt response and a proper disposition to all calls for service.
6. Prepare quality reports when appropriate.
7. Ensure that crimes are properly investigated and that evidence is properly gathered, reported, and preserved.
8. Promote the general safety of persons, property, and equipment through a proper balance of vehicle, foot, and bicycle patrol.
9. Facilitate the safe and smooth flow of traffic by directing traffic and enforcing traffic laws through citations and verbal warnings.
10. Foster good interdepartmental relations by cooperating with other law enforcement agencies in information exchange.
11. Maintain a thorough knowledge of laws, University regulations, and police operations.
12. Maintain a minimum of 40 hours of law enforcement training.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

14. Must be a law enforcement officer (LEO) certified or certifiable upon hiring (this means you must have successfully completed a police academy)
15. Must be a POST Certified Police Officer
16. Ability to use good judgment and to problem solve
17. Capacity for empathy and compassion

19. Ability to demonstrate courage and to take responsibility
20. Ability to be resourceful and show initiative
21. Demonstrated assertiveness
22. Possess and demonstrate integrity

Preferred Qualifications:

24. Previous law enforcement experience
25. Radar andIntoxilyzercertification

Indoor/Outdoor Duties:
The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
