Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist – Stroke Rehabilitation

Band 7. Closing date: 22 June 2026.

We are seeking a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist for the West Cumberland Hospital Stroke Rehabilitation team. The successful applicant will lead the Stroke Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy team and deliver assessment and treatment of complex patients. The role also requires cross‑cover into the acute setting to provide operational support, oversight, and leadership during periods of high demand and staff absence.

A Band 6–7 development post will be considered, with the expectation that the successful candidate will meet full role requirements within 12–18 months.


Key Responsibilities

* Manage Occupational Therapy teams servicing stroke inpatient areas.
* Plan, allocate and evaluate clinical workloads and service delivery using audit and research skills.
* Act as clinical specialist to Occupational Therapy staff and other healthcare professionals for stroke interventions and discharge planning.
* Ensure provision of quality occupational therapy services across the Stroke Rehabilitation OT team.
* Provide responsive quality occupational therapy assessment and intervention to patients across the Stroke Rehabilitation wards.
* Collaborate with the Head OT, Deputy Head OT and other Clinical Lead OTs to lead change management and promote quality healthcare provision.
* Provide support and cross‑cover to the acute aspects of the Occupational Therapy Department during service pressure and when the Clinical Lead OT is absent.


Qualifications

* Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
* Current registration with HCPC.
* Accredited wheelchair prescriber or equivalent.
* Accredited practice placement educator or equivalent.
* Relevant postgraduate diploma or equivalent.
* Master's degree or equivalent.
* Leadership or management certificate or equivalent.
* Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.


Experience

* Clinical experience specific to stroke rehabilitation.
* Experience dealing with patients and carers with complex rehabilitation and emotional needs.
* Multi‑disciplinary team working.
* Supervision and appraisal of staff.
* Supervision of students.
* Completed audit projects.
* Service/practice innovation.
* Managing change.
* Capacity and demand measurements.

* Environmental adaptations, options and processes.
* Recruitment and selection procedures.
* Evidence of relevant postgraduate training.
* Evidence of research.
* Understanding of service development as part of health and social policy.
* Experience of care pathway development.
* Resolution of professional and ethical issues.


Other Requirements

* Willing to work flexibly.
* Ability to travel extensively across North Cumbria.
* Valid driving licence.
