Description
This role sits within a globally distributed engineering team responsible for building and evolving a customer communications and engagement platform. The platform is built using a microservices architecture and supports a range of customer interactions, including the secure collection of information, authorisations and downstream processing across multiple customer journeys.
The team operates globally, working collaboratively to modernise the platform, extend core capabilities and deliver new functionality to support additional customer types and evolving business requirements.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
1. Take a hands‑on role in delivering production‑ready code, contributing to the architecture and design of systems aligned to a microservices‑based approach.
2. Support the continued modernisation and expansion of the platform, enabling new customer journeys, functionality and scalability improvements.
3. Maintain an awareness of business, engineering and non‑functional requirements, contributing solutions that support both platform reliability and business growth.
4. Play an active role in shaping and reinforcing engineering culture, encouraging best practice, collaboration and high standards across the team.
5. Collaborate effectively within a global, distributed engineering team, supporting delivery across multiple regions and time zones.
6. Proactively identify and remove technical and delivery impediments, recognising risks early and communicating issues clearly to programme and delivery stakeholders.
7. Identify process inefficiencies and drive pragmatic, scalable improvements to improve team effectiveness and delivery outcomes.
Required Skills & Experience
8. Hands‑on Java development experience using modern language versions and frameworks.
9. Strong software engineering background with a track record of designing, developing and deploying backend applications into production.
10. Experience delivering within a microservices architecture, contributing to both service‑level development and wider platform design.
11. Understanding of containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, ideally within GCP environments.
12. Experience developing UI applications using modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React).
13. Experience designing and delivering RESTful APIs in production.
14. Experience designing schemas and working with PostgreSQL databases.
15. Experience collaborating with data teams, including data science and data engineering groups. (Desirable)
16. Experience in financial services, ideally banking or other regulated environments.
17. Experience delivering frequent production releases, balancing high deployment cadence with stability and quality.

This is a full-time FTC/Contract to permanent position located in Sheffield, England. Expectations regarding hybrid working: As we are a Service Provider and Consulting firm servicing clients, our policy for physically working from the office (which may be the client’s offices or our own offices depending on the client) aligns to what our client’s policies and expectations are and these vary. Most of our client’s now require a minimum of 3 days per week in the office, 2 days from home, and accordingly this is also the minimum expectation that Delta Capita require.
