NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. The unit consists of 9 operating theatres, a 12 bedded recovery area, and a theatre reception area staffed by the recovery escort team.
The unit operates on a 24/7 basis providing perioperative care to those patients undergoing elective surgery within the specialties of general surgery, colorectal, gynaecology, ENT, urology, breast and orthopaedics including sub specialty orthopaedics. The Theatre department also has one emergency CEPOD theatre and two Orthopaedic Trauma theatres which service the unscheduled care pathway.
The theatre department also access the use of the da vinci robot at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
The theatre department also benefits from a perioperative education SCN who works closely with staff in order to develop and support staff throughout the department.
In addition to having current NMC/HCPC registration applicants should be enthusiastic, motivated and have an interest of working in the peri-operative environment. Previous experience within the peri-operative environment is a definite advantage however not essential as full training will be given. The department offers team support and continuing education opportunities including supported funded access to the safe scrub module, anaesthetic and recovery courses at GCU as well as our own inhouse comprehensive training and mentorship programme.
The successful candidates are required to demonstrate flexibility by working within a dynamic and evolving service. Furthermore, the successful candidates will be expected where necessary to engage in multi-site working within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to achieve the needs of the service.
