Job Description

WSP is looking for an experienced technical leader in rail, town planning or consents specialist to lead consenting inputs on major and nationally significant infrastructure projects across the UK. The role will focus on the rail and transportation sector, working on projects such as HS1, HS2, the Elizabeth Line, East West Rail, and other national infrastructure projects.


Responsibilities

* Lead consenting inputs on major rail and transportation infrastructure projects (DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs, etc.).
* Provide strong technical leadership and advice to clients and manage their consenting requirements.
* Coordinate the preparation and submission of consent applications under relevant Acts, including Town and Country Planning, Planning Act 2008, and others.
* Act as Project Director for projects led and managed by the Infrastructure Planning business.
* Lead complex negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
* Act as Planning Expert Witness at DCO examinations or other hearings or inquiries.
* Support the Service Line Director in pursuing new work opportunities and take on duties as appropriate.
* Line‑manage and mentor colleagues in their project delivery roles.


Qualifications

* Degree‑level qualification in town planning or equivalent.
* Member of (or eligible for) the RTPI.
* Strong understanding of project finances.
* Sound project management experience, ideally within a consultancy environment.
* Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams to secure approvals for major and nationally significant infrastructure projects via the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Planning Act 2008, Transport and Works Act Order, or relevant UK/Devolved legislation.
* Proven technical leadership and mentoring skills.
