Offer description

Are you ready to make a real difference? Help Shape a Flood-Resilient Future.

Flooding is a growing challenge as climate change and economic development reshape East Anglia. The Environment Agency leads the strategic response to all sources of flooding, helping communities and the environment adapt and thrive.

We’re looking for a proactive Flood and Coastal Risk Management Team Member to join our Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) Team. In this dynamic and rewarding role you’ll help better protect people, property, and places across East Anglia from the impacts of flooding. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference - not just in how we manage flood risk today, but in how we prepare for tomorrow.

You’ll help us do this by providing advice to individuals, local planning authorities and some of the largest strategic infrastructure projects in the UK. You’ll have a role in helping others understand the advice we give whether they are members of the public or members of parliament.

Responsibilities

* Use flood risk data and modelling to inform planning decisions.
* Evaluate flood risk assessments and provide expert advice.
* Assess flood risk activity permit applications and their potential impacts.
* Ensure that our flood risk advice is accurate, consistent and influential with internal and external customers.
* Lead the continuous improvement of our processes through innovative ideas.
* Maintaining and updating our records to ensure information is accessible and accurate.
* Coordinate and track responses to customer enquiries and complaints, correspondence from members of parliament or ministers, and briefings for senior staff.
* Support cost recovery opportunities where appropriate to role.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and provide support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment, and full training will be available.

Team

The Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) Team, part of Local Operations, works with communities and partners to better understand and manage flood risk across Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.

Our main work areas include: using data, modelling, mapping; providing strategic direction; developing and delivering projects; and regulating activities like planning and permitting. Our aim is to help our communities and environment be climate resilient - so when flooding happens, it causes less damage and recovery is quicker.

Experience and skills required (Essential)

* Work independently and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes.
* Communicate accurately, accessibly, and persuasively in written and verbal responses.
* Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
* Respond to new and evolving situations and priorities, and plan tasks appropriately to maximise effectiveness.
* Translate complex information for a range of different customers and stakeholders.
* Recognise and address problems, making decisions independently, escalating where necessary.
* Ensure accuracy, problem solving, and confidently delivering solutions.
* Progress own learning and development.

Helpful but not essential

* Practical knowledge of GIS software.
* Degree in a relevant field such engineering, geography, or science.
* A full UK driving licence.

You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
