Masterclass Education is delighted to be working in partnership with a specialist school in Portsmouth, providing education for pupils aged 3–19 with Severe and Additional Learning Difficulties (SLD/ALD). This is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced Teaching Assistants and individuals looking to start a rewarding career in Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
* Supporting students aged 3–19 with a range of severe and additional learning difficulties, including Autism, physical and sensory needs, and complex communication challenges
* Working collaboratively with teachers and therapists to deliver engaging, differentiated learning experiences
* Using specialist strategies such as Makaton, PECS, sensory integration, and visual supports (training provided if needed)
* Promoting a safe, calm, and structured learning environment that encourages independence and confidence
* Assisting with personal care, mobility, and feeding routines where required (training and support provided)
* Supporting pupils during lessons, therapies, and community-based learning activities
* Encouraging positive communication, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing
What We’re Looking For
* Experience working with children, young people, or adults with additional or complex needs (preferred but not essential)
* A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach to supporting learners with diverse abilities
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* A proactive and flexible attitude, with a genuine passion for supporting SEN education
Essential Requirements
* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
* The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
* A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
* A genuine enthusiasm for helping every pupil achieve their personal best
