Job Overview
This is a new post that has been created to support the expanding pacing service in GUH. It would ideally suit a specialist cardiology trainee or equivalent wishing to hone their pacing skills as part of advanced training. The successful candidate will receive higher training in bradycardia device implantation, ICD and CRT.
Main duties of the job
GUH is a busy enhanced district general hospital, the acute hospital within the hub-and-spoke model of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. There are four pacing consultants and daily pacing lists in our multi-use catheter/pacing labs. Depending on the postholder’s previous experience and skills, they would be expected to organise and manage their own pacing list on a weekly basis, with named consultant support.
The post would be focussed specifically on pacemaker implantation, but the devices fellow would be expected to assess patients’ suitability for pacing and ensure their safe post-procedural care, with consultant support. To enable the successful applicant to maintain their clinical skills, a week of ward duties would be required on a 1 in 12 rotational basis in addition to two weekly clinics. There will be a negotiable commitment to medical on-call at StR level.
