SEN Teaching Assistant
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with additional needs? Teach Now UK is seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a bright and capable Year 2 student in Barnet. If you’re patient, adaptable, and ready for a rewarding challenge, this role is for you!
About the Role:
This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a highly able student who is currently performing at Year 5 level in mathematics but faces challenges with overwhelming anxiety, demand avoidance (PDA), and ADHD. Your primary goal will be to build a trusting and positive relationship, ensuring the student feels safe and comfortable in the school environment. Social relationships and emotional well-being take precedence, with academic work introduced gradually.
The position is part-time, requiring availability for 2.5 days per week: Monday afternoons and full days on Wednesday and Thursday. The role will involve a slow transition for the student, who is currently being partially home-schooled. When in school, he thrives on physical activities like dodgeball and building with LEGO, so a high-energy but calm approach is essential.
What We’re Looking For:
• Qualifications: HLTA status or a degree is essential.
• Experience: Experience working 1:1 with children with EHCPs and a strong understanding of SEN, particularly PDA and ADHD.
• Skills: A calm and patient demeanor, with the ability to engage and motivate.
• Interests: A love for physical activities and creative play to connect with the student.
Why Join Us?
The school is located in Barnet and boasts a supportive and inclusive environment with excellent resources for SEN students. You’ll be part of a vibrant team dedicated to fostering the growth and development of every child. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting impact on a student’s life while growing your own skills and experience in the education sector.
