Wing College is a specialist further education college offering both day and 38-52-week residential placements. We provide holistic education for students aged 16-25 years who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder and associated mental health conditions. Purpose and Summary of the Job
This role primarily involves working in the residential area, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to young people in various settings including classrooms, educational activities, and off-site events. The job involves supporting young people's development by providing physical and emotional support. It requires working as part of a team to maintain a stable, happy, and caring environment prioritizing the health, safety, and welfare of our young people. Key qualities include being a good role model and conducting oneself professionally at all times, whether on duty or representing the organization at external events. The role also includes mentoring Support Workers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Build positive, professional relationships with young people and staff within the establishment and across the Group, and disengage appropriately.
2. Maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment, including domestic duties.
3. Promote and meet the specific needs of young people in accordance with policies and procedures.
4. Assist with medical and welfare needs, report as required, and participate in medical audits.
5. Support young people in maintaining personal cleanliness, hygiene, and appearance, including intimate and invasive care when trained.
Person Specification
1. Minimum of 1 year's recent experience working with young people with special needs/disabilities.
2. Knowledge of general health, safety, and welfare of young people.
3. Understanding of how young people learn and develop.
4. Ability to participate in and possibly lead indoor and outdoor activities.
5. Effective communication skills with young people and others.
6. Ability to understand young people's needs and work independently based on this understanding.
7. Ability to lead an effective shift.
