Job Introduction
Are you a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse or Midwife looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people, and families? Join our Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service as a Family Wellbeing Nurse within HCRG Care Group.
In this vital role, you will work as part of a dynamic Healthy Family Team to provide preventative and supportive health care services. With a strong public health focus, you will collaborate under the guidance of a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) to deliver the Healthy Child Programme across various settings, including homes, Family Hubs, and community venues.
As a Family Wellbeing Nurse, you will play a crucial role in identifying and supporting vulnerable children, including those at risk of welfare and safety concerns. Your work will be pivotal in promoting health and wellbeing within our communities, ensuring that every child and family has access to the care and support they need to thrive.

Main Responsibilities
* Partnering with children, families, and caregivers to identify health needs and coordinate appropriate interventions through the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service or other agencies.
* Updating Family Health Needs Assessments during routine contacts and consulting SCPHNs for significant changes.
* Conducting child health reviews at key ages and making referrals collaboratively with families.
* Triage and follow‑up for children visiting A&E or minor injury units, offering health advice and liaising with SCPHNs or safeguarding teams as needed.
* Working with families requiring early help or reaching Child in Need thresholds, reporting to SCPHNs and safeguarding leads as appropriate.
* Supporting SCPHNs in child protection work, including health assessments and contributions to protection plans.
* Conducting health assessments and contributing to care plans for Looked After Children under SCPHN guidance.
* Facilitating groups and training for parents on common illnesses and chronic conditions.
* Leading 0–8 community health drop‑ins and supporting targeted interventions through group or one‑on‑one sessions.
Essential Qualifications
* Registered Nurse or Midwife
* Experience in working with children and families.
* Knowledge of national and local policy in Children’s Service and Public Health.
* Understanding of child and adolescent development.
* Commitment to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people with sustainable professional boundaries.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues in plain language.
* Ability to work alone and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Willingness to work across all areas of South Essex to meet the needs of the service.
* Driving licence and access to vehicle for work purposes.
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience of working in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
* Detailed knowledge and understanding of behaviour change theory and methods.
* Mentorship qualification.
* Interest in undertaking the Specialist Community Public Health.
