Assistant Accountant Job Specification
We're looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team at our manufacturing company. You'll play a crucial role in supporting the finance department, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, and contributing to the overall financial health of the company.
Key Responsibilities
1. General Ledger Support:
2. Assisting with month-end and year-end close procedures, including preparing journals and accruals.
3. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
4. Supporting the preparation of financial statements.
5. Costing & Inventory (Manufacturing Specific):
6. Assisting with the tracking and analysis of manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labor, and overheads.
7. Supporting inventory valuation and reconciliation.
8. Helping to identify cost-saving opportunities.
9. Reporting & Analysis:
10. Generating various financial reports for management, including sales, expenditure, and budget vs. actuals.
11. Assisting with variance analysis and providing insights into financial performance.
12. Supporting the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
13. Assisting with Accounts Payable
14. Processing and reconciling supplier invoices, ensuring accurate coding and timely payments.
15. Managing customer invoices and receipts, and actively pursuing outstanding debts.
16. Performing regular bank reconciliations.
17. Ensuring compliance with company policies and financial regulations.
18. Assisting with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
19. Ad-hoc Duties:
20. Supporting the wider finance team with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.
21. Contributing to process improvements within the finance department.
Skills & Qualifications
22. Education:
23. Part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, AAT, or equivalent professional accounting qualification, or a qualified by experience.
24. Experience:
25. Proven experience (1-2 years minimum) in an accounting role, preferably within a manufacturing or similar industry.
26. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations is essential.
27. Technical Skills:
28. Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics).
29. Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas) are crucial.
30. Familiarity with costing principles in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
31. Soft Skills:
32. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
33. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
34. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
35. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
36. Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
37. Proactive and eager to learn and develop within the role.
On offer
38. Salary of up to £42,000 plus study support, pension and generous holidays. Early finish on Fridays
