Overview
Healthcare Assistant & Senior Healthcare Assistants at James Paget University Hospital provide a range of personal care and delegated clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, our Healthcare Assistants (HCA) and Senior Healthcare Assistants (SHCA) undertake high quality, caring and compassionate care, contributing to the delivery of high quality healthcare to patients. The HCA role is a great entry point into an NHS career; many HCAs go on to complete further training to develop their skills and further their career. As an HCA with no previous experience in care, a band 2 will have the opportunity of progression to band 3 SHCA once training competencies are attained.
In this busy environment, roles vary depending on the area you work in. For example, working as a healthcare assistant on a ward differs from working as an HCA in outpatient areas. The postholder will be allocated on a shift-by-shift basis to work and support ward-based colleagues in areas where staffing and, or patient acuity/dependency risk assessments indicate that help is required.
