Overview
8b Clinical/Counselling or Forensic Psychologist – 0.6 wte. Provide clinical leadership to the male inpatient pathway at Hellesdon Hospital (two wards, 33 beds) as part of a well-established psychology team within NSFT. Within the role you will support psychological clinical leadership, MDT decision making, risk management and reduction in restrictive interventions. You will aid in informing and engaging teams with psychological thinking and formulation, and work with other psychology colleagues to ensure smooth transitions and integrated treatment/management plans for service users across inpatient and community settings. The post includes supervision and line management of other psychology staff on the male pathway (including a full-time 8a clinical psychologist, B7 art therapist and assistant psychologist) and an emphasis on evidence-based practice, outcome measures and audit data.
Responsibilities
* Ensure the provision of evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment across the male inpatient wards.
* Provide specialist assessment and formulation of complex clients to aid clinical decision making regarding diagnosis, risk management and treatment pathways.
* Lead clinically in collaboration with the wider MDT and liaison with community services to promote psychological formulation and best practice guidelines.
* Engage with families and carers where appropriate, particularly on complex cases where the system may feel "stuck".
* Provide line management and clinical supervision to other clinicians within the inpatient psychology team.
* Collaborate with the Associate Director of Psychology on local and trust-wide service development and initiatives.
Qualifications
Essential
* Post-Graduate Doctorate in Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychology
* Postgraduate qualification or training in a specific psychological therapy (e.g., CAT, CBT, DBT)
Desirable
* Evidence of CPD training in supervision of others
* Evidence of CPD training in clinical leadership
* Evidence of CPD training in a clinical speciality relevant to the role
Experience
Essential
* Relevant experience in an inpatient setting (acute or forensic)
* Extensive experience working with adults with severe and complex MH difficulties
* Extensive experience as a qualified psychologist (ideally 4+ years)
Desirable
* Experience in acute adult MH settings such as inpatient, CRHT or psychiatric liaison
* Experience providing line management to junior colleagues and supervising trainees
* Experience delivering training to other staff
