We are seeking two Evidence Advisors to join the EA’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme. These roles focus on designing and analyzing data from water monitoring networks across rivers, streams, groundwater, lakes, estuaries, and coasts.
The NCEA programme is part of the broader Defra-led initiative, gathering comprehensive ecosystem data to highlight their benefits to society and the economy, emphasizing natural capital. Your analyses will inform policy and decision-making, helping the UK meet its environmental, net zero, and biodiversity goals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide statistical expertise in network design and implementation, focusing on hydrogeology, freshwater ecology, or coastal environments.
* Collaborate to ensure networks are unbiased and representative.
* Apply analysis techniques to evaluate network performance and interpret environmental data.
* Develop reproducible analytical pipelines.
* Conduct exploratory data analyses to identify environmental relationships, utilizing domain knowledge and systems mapping.
* Integrate diverse datasets for regional and trend analysis reporting.
* Contribute to metrics development and reporting requirements.
This is a fixed-term contract until 30/05/2027.
The Team
You will be part of the Data Analysis and Statistics work package within the NCEA programme, supported by the Strategic Evidence Design and Assessment (SEDA) team. We promote a friendly, dynamic, and diverse work environment with a focus on staff development and comprehensive training.
Experience and Skills Required
Background & Knowledge:
* Degree or higher in environmental science, hydrogeology, freshwater ecology, with data analysis and statistics training.
* Understanding of freshwater, coastal, estuarine, or groundwater management and monitoring.
* Experience analyzing environmental data and statistical modeling, aware of data complexities and biases.
* Familiarity with current environmental data science practices.
* Experience with statistical model fitting and robustness testing is advantageous.
Key Skills:
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Proficient in R programming.
* Detail-oriented with a passion for data analysis and problem-solving.
* Effective in stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
* Strong organizational skills to manage workloads and deadlines.
* Interpersonal skills to build trust and gain stakeholder buy-in.

The role is hybrid with an EA Office base, with travel to Birmingham/Bristol for team meetings.
