Sykes Timber is a long-established, independent timber importer and merchant supplying customers across the UK. We source a wide range of timber products from international suppliers and operate to high regulatory and certification standards.
We are seeking a capable and detail-oriented individual to oversee compliance and import logistics within the business.
This is a responsible and varied role at the centre of operations, requiring strong organisational ability, sound judgement and a professional approach. As the business continues to modernise and refine its systems, the scope of the role is expected to develop over time for the right individual.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance
Managing FSC/PEFC certification and chain-of-custody systems
Maintaining supplier due diligence in line with UKTR requirements
Preparing for and coordinating external audits
Ensuring regulatory and certification documentation is accurate, complete and properly maintained
Monitoring regulatory developments and maintaining internal compliance procedures
Import Logistics
Coordinating inbound shipments from international suppliers
Liaising with freight forwarders, shipping lines and customs agents
Managing Bills of Lading, customs documentation, invoices and packing lists
Overseeing customs clearance processes
Monitoring shipment schedules and resolving delays where required
Ensuring landed cost information is accurately recorded
Candidate Profile
Highly organised and methodical
Strong attention to detail
Professional and confident communicator
Comfortable managing documentation and regulatory frameworks
Able to work independently and take ownership of processes
Approachable, positive and able to contribute to a supportive and collaborative working environment
Experience in timber, imports, compliance or trading businesses is advantageous but not essential
