Social Worker - Duty & Assessment Team

About the role:
We are seeking a committed and motivated Duty and Assessment Social Worker to join a frontline children’s services team in Lancashire. You will play a crucial role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, undertaking timely assessments and interventions to ensure they receive the right support at the right time.
This is a fast-paced and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will be part of a supportive and experienced team, working in a duty rota system to respond to new referrals and assess levels of risk and need.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carry out proportionate child and family assessments in line with statutory guidance and local policies.
2. Make decisions on the level of intervention required, from providing early help to initiating child protection procedures.
3. Undertake Section 47 enquiries and work with partner agencies to safeguard children.
4. Develop clear plans of intervention, ensuring the voice of the child is central to all assessments and decisions.
5. Manage a caseload within statutory timescales, ensuring high-quality and timely recording.
6. Work collaboratively with families, colleagues, and partner organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
7. Contribute to duty rota responsibilities, responding to new referrals and undertaking initial visits.
What you need:
8. A degree in Social Work or equivalent
9. Registered with Social Work England
10. At least 3 years PQE permanent, direct employment within English local authorities
11. Experience in statutory children’s social care, ideally within a duty, assessment, or frontline team
12. Strong knowledge of legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding procedures.
13. Enhanced DBS check
14. Excellent communication and written skills
