Background Information
Cerdic Foundries Ltd was established in 1970 and has enjoyed a significant period of growth and expansion of the processing facilities at the site in Chard, in order to service an expanding customer base across several industry sectors. The company was run as a family business until 2016, when it was transferred through acquisition into part of the Rubicon Partners portfolio of companies. The company has continued to develop the customer base and defined a strategy to build upon core skills and competencies in order to expand into new markets, whilst servicing the current diverse customer base. In order to continue the strategic development of the company, the requirement to recruit a Night Shift Manager has been identified as part of growth and succession planning. This senior position will report directly to the Foundry Operations Manager and work closely with the Foundry Foreman and department Supervisors. The Night Shift Manager will plan, organise, lead, co-ordinate and control all Night Shift activities, whilst providing assistance to Maintenance, Quality Control and Health & Safety activities within the business.
Role and Responsibilities:
Oversight and performing of night shift melting and pouring activities, ensuring that all procedures and instructions are adhered to, and ensuring that daily production schedules are completed
Operation and daily maintenance of water-cooled electric induction furnaces, associated ladles, computer software and management systems to ensure all equipment is in good working condition and quality control is upheld
Provide assistance to the core shop team leader as overall Night Shift Manager. Ensuring planning and scheduling for the night is performed, any personnel absence is recorded and any issues or changes relating to night shift activities are raised with the Foundry Operations Manager
Responsible as primary point of contact on nights for all matters relating to Health, Safety and Environmental. Reporting any relevant information to the Foundry Operations Manager for investigation
Attend supervisor meetings and providing a daily report to the Foundry Operations Manager at morning handover
Responsible as primary point of contact on nights for all matters relating to Human Resources, including but not limited to Absence, Grievances, Disciplinaries etc recording information for the Foundry Operations Manager.
Responsible for distributing stock of PPE, overalls, foundry consumables etc and notifying the Foundry Operations Manager when stock needs replenishing
Perform regular stock take of furnace materials and notify Purchasing when stock needs to be ordered
Record any maintenance issues and communicate with the Maintenance Engineer
Notify the Foundry Operations Manager of any training requirements needed for night shift personnel and provide training to new recruits, utilising company work instructions and procedures
Recruitment of operators in conjunction with the Foundry Operations Manager, through agencies or direct hire
Other activities as necessary or requested
Role specific experience requirements
The person appointed to the role of Night Shift Manager will need to have the following experience:
Previous experience in a foundry environment, operating induction furnaces and pouring molten metals from transfer ladles
Competent in using IT and software systems; Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP systems
Knowledge and competence within the field of Iron metallurgy and basic chemistry is compulsory
Use of pyrometers and thermocouples essential, use of other inspect and test equipment, including measuring and laboratory equipment would be advantageous
Demonstrable experience in organising a small team and prioritising tasks to achieve production requirements
