Job Title: Field Service / Calibration Engineer
Reports To: Director of Support Services
Position Overview
The Field Service / Calibration Engineer is responsible for coordinating visits to customer sites, ensuring relevant Health and Safety documents are provided. Working directly with the Director of Support Services, this varied role involves travelling across the UK and Europe with occasional international work when needed. The engineer will coordinate with Engineering Design, Production, Software and Documentation to ensure customer requirements are satisfied while keeping the job on time and within budget.
The role requires a good understanding of servo-hydraulic systems, their electronic controllers and processing software. Experience in transducer calibration is beneficial, though comprehensive training will be provided. The engineer will also provide maintenance/service support to customers as required.
The scale of each customer project will vary from a single actuator to an entire multi‑actuator system, requiring the engineer to adapt to differing levels of operational complexity. The role is very much a "hands‑on" position, requiring both autonomous work and teamwork.
A vehicle will be provided to the successful applicant.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Plan, action and complete on‑site calibration of customer systems and issue the appropriate supporting documentation.
* Serve as the technical "Single Point of Contact" for new and existing customers.
* Carry out in‑house calibration/testing.
* Coordinate with all engineering departments during fault‑finding to deliver efficient solutions.
* Prepare method statements and risk assessments before site work.
* Prepare standard procedures and site reports.
* Liaise with the customer from the beginning of the process to clarify requirements and organise customer training, when appropriate.
* Provide ongoing customer support as required, both on‑site and remotely.
* Identify risks related to safety, environment or health.
* Be willing to travel internationally from time to time.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
Experience
* 3 years minimum working with hydraulics, preferably in low‑volume high‑value systems manufacturing.
* Experience in transducer calibration preferred.
Qualifications
* Apprenticeship served.
* HNC, HND or degree qualified in a hydraulic/electronic discipline.
