Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join a small team on a large privately-owned estate near Northampton. This position would suit a dedicated and experienced gardener with excellent attention to detail or someone on a career progression and willing to learn.
Responsibilities
* Maintain the gardens to a high standard throughout the year, working with the Head Gardener and property owner, with support from other gardening team members.
* Ensure the formal gardens (approximately 13 acres) are well presented, including herbaceous borders, ponds, statuary, mature trees and shrubs, and the less formal garden by the stream.
* Assist with management of greenhouses in the Old Walled Garden and on-site house plants, pellees and range of perennials.
* Watering, management of greenhouses, and support for open days as required, including weekend work on a rotational basis.
* Adhere to health and safety rules and be willing to learn on the job and develop high standards.
Qualifications
* Ideally hold an RHS Level 2 horticulture qualification and/or equivalent experience.
* PA1/PA6 chemical spray certificates are desirable.
* Good plant knowledge and familiarity with common gardening practices and machinery.
* Awareness of health and safety requirements and willingness to comply with the business’s safety rules.
Details
Hours: Predominantly a 39-hour week with flexibility to cover weekends and Bank Holidays as required for watering, managing the greenhouses, and open days. Time off in lieu is provided for weekend work.

Accommodation: 3-bedroom house on site. Water rates and Council Tax are the employer’s responsibility; other bills are the employee’s responsibility. A partner and children are welcome; pets (dog or cat) at the employer’s discretion.
This private estate gardens are open to the public during the summer months and the role offers the opportunity to work within celebrated gardens of a historic estate.
