Job Specification - BMS Engineer Location:Bristol Employment Type: Full-time, permanent Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience) Are you a BMS Engineer looking for a new exciting company that will keep you local to Bristol. We partner with clients to design, install, and maintain control systems that drive energy efficiency, improve resilience, and extend the lifecycle of assets. Our portfolio includes large education estates, healthcare, aviation, and commercial sites. We are looking for a BMS Engineer to support our direct contract with the University of the West of England (UWE), one of the largest higher education estates in the South West. This is a key, long-term role with strong opportunities to make an impact on energy use, system optimisation, and lifecycle improvements across the university's buildings. The Role You will be based full-time on the UWE Bristol campuses, providing second-line support to the university's M&E provider and working closely with the UWE Energy Management team. This role was initially scoped for three days per week, but due to the scale of legacy systems and lifecycle upgrades required, it has now developed into a full-time position. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands-on engineering and customer-facing collaboration to drive real change across a large and diverse estate. Key Responsibilities Provide reactive second-line BMS support following escalation from the M&E provider. Work closely with UWE's in-house Energy Management team to identify and deliver energy reduction opportunities through optimisation of the BMS. Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve systems across a mixed estate, including: Schneider EcoStruxure Enterprise Server (primary platform) with a mix of Legacy Andover controllers and Schneider controllers Trend BMS sites and head-end Support and deliver quoted works and projects, including: Replacement of obsolete controllers Additional works resulting from reactive breakdowns Integration of standalone AC systems and other plant into the BMS Engage with UWE stakeholders to ensure systems are reliable, user-friendly, and aligned with energy and carbon reduction objectives. Carry out system modifications, graphics updates, and controller strategy changes as required. Act as the main BMS point of contact on site, supporting both reactive and planned improvements. Occasionally support the wider business on other projects when required. Key Requirements Experienced Managing on site Health and Safety, writing risk assessments and Method Statements for activities and identifying key risks and working safely. Strong technical background in BMS engineering with experience across multiple platforms (Schneider EcoStruxure and Trend desirable). Experience in BMS maintenance, fault finding, and system optimisation. Understanding of BMS integration, networking, and cybersecurity considerations. Excellent customer engagement and communication skills - able to work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proactive, energetic, and comfortable working across multiple sites with a variety of plant rooms. A genuine interest in energy efficiency and supporting clients to meet their sustainability goals.
