Job Overview
We have an exciting opportunity within the Facilities team, working as a chef at Nevill Hall Hospital. The post holder will work as part of a team that provides catering duties throughout the catering operation. They will assist with the day-to-day supervision and organization of these services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is confident to work on their own initiative, possessing flair and enthusiasm, as well as being self-motivated and able to empower the team.
The hours are 37.5 per week with a mixture of different shifts, including working 3 weekends out of 4.
Main Duties
1. Planning team members' work schedules and resource requirements.
2. Coordinating the work of the team to ensure goals are reached.
3. Producing all meals, snacks, salads, sandwiches for patients, staff, and visitors.
4. Producing specialized dietary requirements in accordance with pre-agreed menus.
5. Liaising with nursing staff and dietitians regarding dietary needs.
6. Supervising catering assistants regarding food preparation and provision.
7. Monitoring food safety and quality, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and good practices.
Our services operate 24/7, requiring unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Knowledge of catering procedures, food hygiene, and specialized diets (e.g., City and Guilds 7061 & 7062, or NVQ Level 2 in professional Cookery).
* Level 2 in Food Safety.
* Allergen Awareness.
* Ability to develop menus and recipes to meet customer needs.
* Understanding of Natasha's Law and NHS Food and Hydration Standards.
Desirable:
* Level 3 or 4 Food Safety training.
* Allergen Level 3 certification.
* NVQ Level 3 in advanced professional cookery.
Experience
Essential:
* Knowledge of HACCP principles applied in catering.
* Experience in large-scale food production as a chef.
