Overview
Working on both small and large projects and bid proposals, the Automation Engineer is responsible for the execution of automation systems, or parts thereof, and providing technical input throughout project and bid lifecycles.
Responsibilities
* Developing an automation solution which meets the requirements of the proposal or project.
* Ensuring design and execution outputs are delivered in line with the time schedule and quality requirements.
* Providing technical support regarding automation design aspects throughout project and bid lifecycles.
* Undertaking other technical tasks as required (e.g. site surveys, feasibility studies, support to sales, etc).
* Providing aftermarket support for customers with participation in 24/7 support up to 1 week per month (possible travel).
* Additional language skills preferable.
* Undertaking automation design and execution tasks on projects or proposals, including safety, environment, risk assessments and related reviews as defined in SPX Flow procedures and customer contracts.
* Ensuring compliance with local legislation and regulations (e.g. EU Machinery Directive) applicable to engineering design.
* Designing and configuring automation solutions and defining their characteristics, including architecture diagrams, hardware/software selection, control philosophy, software structure, and functional design descriptions.
* Producing detailed design specifications, PLC software code, network/configuration, and HMI/SCADA interfaces; integrating with MIS/MES, ERP and other systems as applicable.
* Ensuring task completion in line with the project schedule, quality requirements, and budget.
* Leading communication and teamwork with customers and internal teams; supporting other disciplines during the design phase to achieve deliverables.
* Assisting with site execution activities during installation and commissioning, including planning, commissioning, and hand-over of records to aftermarket teams.
* Preparing user manuals and operating/maintenance documentation; compiling technical files as required by legislation (e.g. EU Machinery Directive).
* Supporting pre-contract studies and sales activities with technical input.
* Driving for results, teamwork, learning and knowledge sharing, analytical thinking, creativity, and quality conduct as described in SPX Flow values.
Qualifications
* Excellent communication skills; fluent English (spoken and written). Additional languages are an advantage.
* Ability to work on multiple tasks in a matrix environment; able to collaborate across functions and geographies.
* Good analytical/problem-solving skills and attention to detail; able to work independently with initiative.
* Experience with Studio5000 (Rockwell), Siemens SimaticNET and TIA Portal, Wonderware InTouch, Microsoft Office; programming experience in C/C++, C#, Visual Studio is advantageous; SQL Server experience is advantageous.
* Degree-level qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical).
* Automation execution experience in hygienic industries (food, beverage, pharmaceutical, etc.); understanding of control requirements for hygienic processes (e.g. CIP) is beneficial.
* Experience leading technically oriented teams; knowledge of Siemens and AB Rockwell programming environments (S7, TIA Portal, ControlLogix); experience with Wonderware SCADA (InTouch); SAP experience beneficial.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Physical demands may include moving up to 40 lbs; reasonable accommodations available. Occasional standing/walking; occasional lifting up to 10 lbs. Vision and focus requirements apply. Normal office or client-site workshop/warehousing conditions; local sites may require safety equipment.
